3 reasons I love in-home newborn sessions (and you should too!)

A new baby is something to be celebrated. You want to capture every single moment you can, and remember everything about their sweet little leg rolls and tiny toes. Even though it's a joyous, wonderful time for a family, as a mom I know how much stress, exhaustion, and worry can also come with the first couple of weeks home with a new baby. The last thing I wanted to do was get dressed up and actually leave my house for something! I definitely didn't want to load up my sweet new baby, 3 year old, and husband and drag them to have pictures made... and I love pictures. All of that to say, in-home newborn sessions are a perfect way to take away the stress of getting your family out of the house for a photo session, while still getting those gorgeous, studio quality images that every mom wants of their new baby. I am passionate about in-home newborn photography, and I want to share with you the top 3 reasons you should consider it for your newborn session.
Reason Number One: You don't have to do anything! As a mom, I feel there is nothing better than hearing, "You don't have to do a thing.", so I LOVE being able to say it to my clients! Once you've booked your in-home newborn session with Janie and June Photography, all you have to do is sit back and relax. I bring everything needed to give you beautiful images of your little one, and set it all up in a small area of your home. I know many people think that they won't have enough room, but I have worked in small apartments, dining room corners, bedrooms, playrooms, livingrooms, you name it! In-home newborn sessions don't require much room at all. When I arrive, I take about 20 minutes to set up my area, show you different colors available for wraps and backdrops, and then the session is ready to begin! All in all, sessions usually take anywhere from 2-4 hours, depending on the package size parents choose. Reason Number Two: Clients are more comfortable. I've said it before, but I feel it deserves repeating. I love in-home newborn sessions, because I get to provide a service to my client without making them leave their home. A family's home is where they feel the most comfortable. Baby can feel that, they know if their parent is stressed because they had to rush everyone to get ready and be at a studio on time, or if they are in a new environment. I feel so honored every time a family invites me into their home. Being able to photograph a family in their element lets them feel more comfortable and enjoy the session more, which allows me to get more of those real emotions in photos. Reason Number Three: Families can rest or knock something off their to-do list. Being able to tend to other things during the session is another huge bonus for parents, especially if there are siblings involved. It's difficult for anyone to sit through a 2-4 hour newborn session with nothing to do, but it's even harder for children. In-home newborn sessions allow your family to continue your day as you normally would. Siblings still have all their toys to play with, they can watch Daniel Tiger or play outside, and parents are able to catch up on things they need or want to do (or even take a quick nap!) until I am ready for sibling or parent shots. Some parents even choose to use their baby-free time to get ready for their portion of the session.
If I had it to do over again, I would scour the country for an in-home newborn photographer to make my life a little easier. Since our daughter was medically fragile, there was no way I was taking her out of the house unnecessarily,
so we just didn't get professional newborn photos. In the end it's simple, bringing a new life into the world is a big deal. It's the most amazing thing a person can do, so you deserve a little break and someone to make your life a little easier (at least for a day). I love being able to give families that break, and I love delivering beautiful images of their newborn to them even more.
If you or someone you know is expecting and wanting to book a newborn session, please consider an in-home newborn session. You won't regret it!
